Despite the circumstances in which everyone is involved, IFA, one of the most important technology fairs in the world, will hold a face-to-face session. The organizers believe it is possible to organize events with the different brands in the first week of September.
Jens Heithecker, IFA Executive Director has given today a press conference announcing the face-to-face celebration of the fair that takes place every year in the city of Berlin at the end of the summer. Like other similar events such as the Mobile World Congress in February, it was thought that IFA would have to be restricted to the online format to hold its presentation events.
However, the organizers consider that in September the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic will be more controlled and that will allow them organize an on-site event with new security measures. “Innovation does not stop. Our industry urgently needs a platform to showcase your innovation projectsHeithecker explained.
It will be held in Berlin as usual, but in a different spirit. It will be a shorter fair, it will last three days, from September 3 to 5 (both included) and with more demanding protocols to maintain the social distance measures that have been established in all countries.
The capacity will be limited, only 1,000 people will be able to attend each presentation event. People who must be accredited in time, as the fair will be closed to the public. The press may also attend, but with the same security measures, although interviews may be conducted in person.
“We want to be part of the solution“Heithecker has indicated in relation to the economic crisis that is causing the pandemic in most industries, including technology. IFA 2020 wants to focus on being a showcase for brands and a platform to show the cutting-edge technologies of the moment.
Among those technologies is 5G that will be handled by the first guest. Cristiano Amon, President of Qualcomm is in charge of opening the conferences that will take place on those days in Berlin.
