Rebels in South Sudan Thumb Down Latest Peace Proposal

Rebels in South Sudan have rejected a peace proposal by the president that may have seen the nation returning to an unique system of ten states plus three new areas.

President Salva Kiir on Saturday proposed that the county be divided in the unique 10 states, as had been demanded by the rebels, plus the three “administrative areas” of Pibor, Ruweng, and Abyei.

The provide was nevertheless rejected by insurgent chief Riek Machar, who objected to the concept of the three new areas.
