Missoula mayor Jordan Hess on Friday declared an official State of Emergency regarding houselessness and sheltering to those several different encampments of unsheltered people living in tents.

In a public interview last Friday, Missoula Mayor Jordan Hess said that he is declaring an official State of Emergency regarding houselessness and sheltering to those several different encampments of unsheltered people living in tents.
He added that they are responding to those concerns about those urban camping and some solutions to homelessness. He said that they will be expanding the city’s shelters and would give authorities more tools to enforce urban camping in public places.
He said that they have collaborated with the Biden administration and six major cities, and he was excited and overwhelmed to think that the federal acknowledges this kind of issue. He said that he is prioritizing his city and as a member of the National League of Cities and Towns, he is been working to raise and think of more solutions for homelessness and it deserves the support of the federal. He said that the cities that are also struggling with this issue need to come together and be unified in order to give solutions.

State Of Emergency For Homelessness Declared By The Missoula Mayor Hess
Mayor Hess added that this will allow the city to level up to two mills to address the current situation, the measurement will raise up to $500,000 from residential and those who are commercial property owners. This is together with the other $1.6 million that the city and county have identified. The shelter would probably open in about 90 days from the start of the construction there will be bathrooms and some private outdoors for the fence. He said that if together will stand and unified this problem will pass soon.
