Joran van der Sloot arrives in the United States after being taken by plane with Federal Bureau of Investigations agents in Lima, Peru, according to the Interpol Chief in Peru.
The prime suspect of the Natalee Holloway case
The prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway during a Mountain Brook High School senior trip, Joran van der Sloot, was temporarily handed over by the Peruvian authorities to US custody. The plane carrying van der Sloot along with FBI agents arrived at Birmingham’s Shuttlesworth Airport around 2:30 p.m.
The suspect, who also admitted to killing a Peruvian woman, has been serving a 28-year sentence in Peru. He is wanted in the United States on one count of extortion and one count of wire fraud, the only accusations that have ever been related to Holloway’s abduction on the Caribbean island of Aruba, according to the New York Post.

Van der Sloot Trial
LĂłpez Aeda stated that the suspect is currently imprisoned at the AncĂłn 1 Prison in Lima until he is transferred to the custody of the FBI, according to the New York Post.Â
According to court records, van der Sloot is scheduled to be put on trial in Birmingham federal court on Friday.
