23 Suspects Arrested in Florida

A total of 23 suspects have been arrested in Florida as part of a five-year investigation known as “Operation Gone in 60 Days,” which targeted an intricate auto theft ring involved in the illegal acquisition and sale of luxury vehicles.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) announced the arrests on Monday, highlighting the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies and statewide prosecutors in dismantling this large-scale car theft operation. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody expressed her gratitude for the joint efforts and emphasized that organized theft has no place in the state.

The investigation was initiated in 2018 when agents discovered that fraudulent Florida Commercial Driver Licenses (CDLs) were being issued to individuals who had not completed the necessary training. Further investigation uncovered a criminal organization responsible for generating fake vehicle identification numbers (VINs) for high-end cars such as Porsche, Land Rover, and Maserati, which were obtained through theft.

The suspects would sell the stolen vehicles at prices below market value, using fraudulent tags and engaging in other criminal activities. The group employed couriers, utilized fake identities, and made deceptive payments to car dealerships, who only realized they had been defrauded after the vehicles were already gone.

Each suspect in the case faces different charges, including racketeering, grand theft of a motor vehicle, dealing in stolen property, money laundering, and possession of a motor vehicle with a modified VIN. Furthermore, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) officials mentioned that two more suspects currently have active arrest warrants, while two others have affidavits pending with the court, according to Fox News.
