A 26-year-old man will no longer face the death penalty after the trial for murdering his wife and son has wrapped up.
Alabama Man Shots Wife Dead
CJ Robinson, the District Attorney for the 19th Circuit, recently announced that Hunter Tatum, 26 years old, pleaded guilty to two counts of murder. A judge took his plea and sentenced him to 200 years in prison. As reported by the Montgomery Advertiser, Tatum was approaching the end of his trial for the murder of his wife, Summer, and son, Everett. Hunter shot Summer dead way back in October of 2021. The shooting occurred in their home in Plattville. Tatum was also charged with the murder of another individual while planning to kill another person.
According to prosecutors, Hunter shot Summer after finding out that she was having an online relationship with a woman she met in England. Tatum’s defense camp stated that he was threatened with a gun by Summer herself.

Hunter’s Crime And The Aftermath Of The Shooting
As reported by the Montgomery Advertiser, footage from a security camera revealed that Summer pleaded for her life while Hunter was threatening her with his gun. Hunter was seen and heard that he repeatedly ignoring Summer’s apology before shooting Summer in the head with his revolver.
Baby Everett was delivered by doctors through an emergency C-section but ultimately died two hours after he was taken out. The death penalty was pushed by the prosecutors but Summer’s family took the plea deal. Robinson stated that the case was a heavy one.
