An ex-boyfriend of a popular high school softball player in Florida stabbed his former girlfriend multiple times before attempting suicide by cutting his own throat, police say.
Ex-boyfriend stabbed former girlfriend 15 times
The horrific attack took place in broad daylight in an upscale area of Ponte Vedra Beach near Jacksonville, and it was interrupted when a brave bystander noticed the assault and intervened, as reported by the police.
The 17-year-old student at Ponte Vedra High School, Madison Schemitz, was having a meal at a restaurant on Saturday with her mother and her friend, Casey Estep, when they noticed Spencer Pearson, according to NY Post.Â
Estep revealed to local reporters that Schemitz had recently ended her relationship with the 18-year-old Pearson, who had been threatening her with violence.Â

Ex-boyfriend charged
According to authorities and a witness account, Pearson allegedly attacked Madison from behind, restraining her while stabbing her approximately 15 times.
Madison’s mother was reportedly stabbed in the forehead and leg upon trying to intervene. A bystander, who also sustained injuries during the incident, managed to disarm Pearson before he inflicted a slit on his throat in an apparent suicide attempt, according to People.Â
Spencer Ross Pearson, 18, is charged with two counts of attempted premeditated murder and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, resulting in permanent disability according to St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
