A new Twilight Program launches by Fairfax County Public Schools this spring season. This program assist students whose struggling to come to school because of their schedules.
The program operates from exactly 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on high school days with the goal of helping students graduate on time. Joe Thompson, a head of FCPS Special Projects Administrator for the Non-Traditional Schools and Programs said that the goal of this program is to aim students with flexible schedules so that they would come to school and graduate on time. According to the FCPS report that some of the Senior Highschool students come only to school 3 times a week personally from 4-6 p.m. and worked remotely for the remaining 2 days of their schedule.
They have this evening class to aid students who miss their morning classes. Thompson said that a lot of their students are closing down restaurants, or cleaning some kitchens late at night and coming home late so they need to wake up early for morning classes.

Students must be exhausted and will decide not to come to school. That’s why on this program they will prioritize those students and will offer a more flexible schedule for them to attend in class with a feeling of peace in mind. According to FCPS there are about 95% who graduated on time in the Class of 2022 but the rate dropped down for Hispanic student’s into 82% and English language learners into 72%. Thompson said that the program’s benefits are not only limited to students but teachers as well. If the students can come to school on time and graduate on time it is also a teacher’s fulfillment from helping their student pursue their dreams.
