Joseph Fogle, a man from Louisiana, arrested due to the death of his wife
According to a press statement from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a residence on Highway 74 on Wednesday, June 28, at about 4:45 a.m.
They discovered Sonia Escalante-Baca deceased from what seemed to be a blunt force trauma. She was found by authorities lying in a bed, according to The Advocate.
The Sheriff’s Office named Joseph Fogle, the victim’s spouse, as the main suspect after gathering enough evidence. On June 28, he reportedly called authorities to report the death of his wife.
The Advocate claims that during an interview, Joseph Fogle admitted to police that he had gone out for breakfast the day before and returned to find his wife dead.
According to Authorities, he has maintained his innocence during conversations with sheriff’s detectives. He claimed he went out to grab breakfast before returning home to discover his wife battered, according to deputies.
Ascension investigators in the sheriff’s violent crimes unit initially withheld naming a suspect following the death last month but stated they were interviewing her husband, other family members, and people close to her.
Deputies claimed they had acquired sufficient evidence on Friday to link Joseph Fogle to the murder and had secured a warrant for his arrest.
Investigators apparently believe Joseph Fogle beat his wife while using a weapon.
On the basis of a second-degree murder accusation, the Sheriff’s Office checked him into the Ascension Parish Jail.
According to court documents, Joseph Fogle had previously been found guilty of aggravated kidnapping in Parker County,Texas.
The Weatherford Democrat claims that in June 2007, he requested a ride from a woman he knew and then abducted her while she was in handcuffs at knifepoint. He received a 15-year prison term.
