A sales tax weekend – sales tax exemption for selected items
According to a published article from The Real Deal, participating states reduce sales tax on specific items during tax-free weekends (or weeks, in some circumstances), which helps make back-to-school shopping a little cheaper.
This coming August 4-6, there will be a tax-free weekend in SC (South Carolina).
In other words, you won’t pay sales tax if you shop at a retailer in a state while that state is holding its tax-free holiday.
If you make a purchase during your state’s tax-free weekend, the state sales tax will simply be waived at checkout without any paperwork or coupons being needed.

According to a published acrticle from ABC 6, Tax-Free Weekend in SC (South Carolina) will take place from August 4 to 6. Here is a list of what will and won’t be exempt from sales tax during the event to aid shoppers in planning.
According to the South Carolina Department of Revenue, the following items will be exempt from sales tax during the Tax-Free Weekend in SC:
- Computers
- Printers
- Shoes
- Clothing and accessories
- School supplies
- certain bed and bath items
Tax-Free Weekend in SC will not exclude the following items from sales tax:
- Jewelry
- Cosmetics
- Eyewear
- digital cameras
- smartphones
- wallets
- watches
- Furniture
Sales tax won’t be charged on eligible items whether they are purchased in-person or online during the Tax-Free Weekend in SC.
Tax-Free Weekend is open to all merchants who sell qualified goods.
