Officials reported that a correction officer at the infamous Rikers Island jail complex in New York City was slashed by an inmate on Tuesday.

A jail guard in Rikers Island, New York Jail, became the victim of a tragic incident at Rikers Island, sustaining severe injuries with a cut behind the ear. The Department of Correction reported that the distressing event occurred at approximately 3 p.m. at the George R. Vierno Center, says FOX News.
The Rikers Island, New York Jail Complex experienced 19 deaths in the previous year which was announced as the deadliest year of the Jail.
The Commissioner of the Department of Correction, Louis Molina, expressed strong disapproval of the act of violence, particularly because it involved a correction officer. He emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated and assured that the suspect responsible for the crime would be apprehended again.

Attacks in Rikers Island Jail Complex
The incident has sparked concerns about the jail complex. FOX News Digital reported that in connection with another crime occurrence at the same facility, an officer also in the jail was suspended together with an assistant deputy.
The said guards in jail and their supervisors failed to do their duty of making rounds on the unit of Curtis Davis. This inmate, Curtis Davis, a 44-year-old man was found dead on Sunday.
