ECUADOR PRISON RIOT LEFT 31 DEAD AND MULTIPLE INJURED INMATES
According to published news from CBS News, in response to reports that 31 prisoners had died as a result of the Ecuador prison riot that broke out over the weekend due to gang rivalry, over 2,700 soldiers stormed an Ecuadorian prison on Tuesday and retook control of the establishment.
The public prosecutor’s office said that 31 individuals were killed and 14 were injured in the most recent conflict between rival gangs that resulted in the Ecuador prison riot, violent Guayas 1 jail in the port city of Guayaquil. The office had reported that 18 people had died.
In Ecuador, a nation that has recently emerged as a prominent player in the South American cocaine trade, riots frequently pit prison gangs with connections to drug traffickers against one another.
