Mark Mechikoff, 39, of Pacifica, was detained on charges of murdering Claribel Marie Estrella, 41, and posting her dying moments on social media before escaping the scene of the crime.
Suspect Arrested when a Netizen Reported the Crime Scene Posted on Facebook
According to police, they were given notice at 3:48 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Reported to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada, a person called them to report seeing a “stabbing” on Facebook and gave the name as well as the contact information of the person who published the account of the incident.
A caller denounced the assault to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada after seeing footage of it on Facebook. The sheriff’s staff “pinged” the phone number linked to the Facebook profile and tracked it down to a huge San Mateo apartment complex.
According to the Associated Press, the victim has been named as Claribel Estrella, and the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office charged Merchikoff, a California man on Friday with one count of murder with charges for suffering serious injury to the body with a knife.

The relationship between the Suspect and Victim is not yet identified
In a published article reported by People, Merchikoff arrived in court but did not enter a plea, as stated by District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe, and his preliminary hearing has been delayed for a week while he is waiting for his judge-appointed lawyer.
According to Wagstaffe, the extent of Merchikoff and Estrella’s relationship was unknown, and the deceased was located inside one of the pinged complex’s units close to three hours after her death.
