A High School basketball player, age 17, passed away on Thursday after collapsing while working out with his team.
Caleb White, a junior high school basketball player from Pinson Valley High School in Alabama, was named to the first team last year.
His grandfather, George Varnadoe Jr., ranked him No. 2 in Alabama and 25th overall among point guards.
White, a high school basketball player, passed out at 1:12 pm. Thursday, and until paramedics arrived, life-saving measures were carried out. Just over an hour later, at a nearby hospital, he was declared dead.
Alvin Briggs, executive director of the AHSAA, issued a statement saying, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Caleb’s family, his classmates, basketball team, and extended school family.” He was a great role model and student-athlete.

Pinson Mayor Joe Cochran posted on Facebook that he was “heartbroken.” “There are no words that can be found to comfort a family and community who have lost a young life.
“I loved the spirit Caleb carried and felt privileged to have known him personally. Life is short. Treat each day like the treasure that it is. I’m certain Caleb did.
Varnadoe continued, “Caleb was an honor student, very respectful, intelligent, a great role model, and a fantastic high school basketball player.
According to AL.com, the high school basketball player, White, had averages of 20.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.9 steals. In his second season, he scored 17.3 points on average.
Friday was the day for the autopsy of the high school basketball player.
