A 32-year-old man from Antioch was found guilty for masterminding lottery ticket theft scheme involving California State Lottery tickets.

Ryan Anderson pleaded guilty Friday to masterminding lottery ticket theft scheme.

According to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, Anderson, 32, was guilty of masterminding multiple lottery ticket theft from more than 100 convenience and grocery stores.

The lottery ticket theft scheme targeted stores in seven counties namely Contra Costa, Alameda, Marin, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano, and Stanislaus counties between March 27, 2022, and October 25, 2022.

Spokesman for the prosecutor’s office, Ted Asregadoo , said that the lottery ticket theft ring mastermind Anderson and his accomplices would steal California Lottery Scratchers by distracting the clerk at a specific store and then cash in the winning tickets at another store.

The lottery ticket theft ring managed to steal tickets worth $95,565 with prize money of $59,105, according to prosecutors.

The multiple lottery ticket theft ended after the Contra Costa prosecutors were able to keep the lottery ticket theft ring mastermind Anderson, in custody, according to The Mercury News.

According to prosecutors, lottery ticket theft ring mastermind Anderson presented a letter of apology to the lottery ticket theft victims, expressing his desire to live an honest life and repay any money he owed in connection to the lottery ticket theft scheme, The Mercury News added.

The district attorney’s office claimed that they had the legal authority to charge Anderson with all of his crimes, even though they took place in different counties, based on a state law.
