According to authorities, the woman who was accused of pushing and killing a vocal coach in New York City has admitted guilt and will stay 8 years in prison.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. said that Lauren Pazienza, 28, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree manslaughter for fatally pushing Barbara Gustern, 87, in the Chelsea neighborhood on March 10, 2022.
According to the prosecution, Pazienza, who initially entered a not-guilty plea, will stay for 8 years in prison starting next month, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
According to Bragg’s statement on Wednesday, “Lauren Pazienza aggressively shoved Barbara Gustern to the ground and walked away as the beloved New Yorker lay there bleeding.” “Today’s plea makes Pazienza answerable for her murderous deeds.” Lauren Pazienza is now expected to spend 8 years in prison.
He continued, “We continue to grieve the loss of Barbara Gustern, a gifted vocal coach and performer in the world of musical theater who touched so many in New York City and beyond.
According to the prosecution, Pazienza was heavily intoxicated with her fiancé the night she shoved Gustern and stormed out of Chelsea Park after learning that the park would soon be closing, as reported by The Associated Press.
Prosecutors claim that after leaving the park, she crossed the street and yelled profanities at Gustern before pushing the elderly woman to the ground and running away as she bled profusely from her head.
The left side of Gustern’s brain suffered a significant hemorrhage as a result of the fall. After being taken off of life support, she passed away five days later at a nearby hospital, according to the prosecution.
According to the prosecution, Pazienza stayed in the area for 20 minutes before riding the train with her fiancĂ© back to their Queens apartment. Prosecutors claim that she didn’t tell her fiancĂ© about the attack until later in the evening.
Prosecutors claim that Pazienza later deleted her social media accounts and took down her wedding website before running away to her Long Island family home.
