On the night of August 11, at approximately 12:09 a.m., Trooper Martin Moran, a dedicated four-year veteran of the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division, initiated a routine traffic stop in the bustling city of Las Vegas. The driver of a speeding sedan, clocked at an alarming 66 MPH in a 35 MPH zone near Mountains Edge Parkway and Rainbow Blvd, suddenly took a dark turn.
A passenger abruptly exited the vehicle and aimed a weapon at Trooper Moran, who was still inside his patrol cruiser. In a heart-pounding exchange, Nevada State Police shots rang out as the suspect opened fire, while Moran bravely returned fire from his vehicle. The assailants then fled the scene on foot after their car crashed into a nearby wall.

Arrest and Ongoing Pursuit of Justice
According to the recent news released by the FOX5 Vegas News, in the aftermath of this shocking attack, the wheels of justice began to turn. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 30-year-old Chayson Lawson, eventually returned to the scene but not unscathed, bearing gunshot wounds from the exchange with Trooper Moran. He was promptly apprehended and transported to a local hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries. Lawson now faces a litany of charges by Nevada State Police including attempted murder with a deadly weapon on a first responder, discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle, and conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon, among others.
The investigation took a significant step forward with the identification of the second suspect, 34-year-old Domico Mangum. On September 12, Mangum was arrested by local law enforcement in San Jose, California. His extradition to Las Vegas is currently pending, and he is expected to face serious charges according to Nevada State Police such as attempted murder with a deadly weapon on a first responder and possessing a firearm as a prohibited person.
