Rep. Jamaal Bowman claimed it was an accident as he rushed to vote on a stopgap funding bill.
Trump accused Rep. Jamaal Bowman of intentionally obstructing an official proceeding and compared his actions to the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021.
House Administration Committee Chairman Brian Steil (R-Wis.) announced an investigation into the incident, and Capitol Police are also investigating.
Despite the incident, Rep. Jamaal Bowman was able to vote in favor of the funding bill, which passed in both the House and the Senate.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has called for Rep. Jamaal Bowman to be punished after he pulled a fire alarm in a Capitol office building, comparing it to the Jan. 6 riot.
McCarthy believes the Ethics Committee should take the incident seriously and ensure Rep. Jamaal Bowman is punished, NBC News reported.
Rep. Jamaal Bowman stated that the action was unintentional and apologized, emphasizing that he was trying to get to a vote, not delay it.
Fellow Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis has called for the expulsion of Rep. Jamaal Bowman from the House.
The fire alarm incident occurred during a vote on a 45-day spending measure to keep the government open, and Democrats complained about the lack of notice and attempted to delay the vote, NBC News added.
