All Female Astronaut Crew to Conduct Historic Spacewalk on November 1
Historic All-Female Astronaut Crew Gears Up for Spacewalk on November 1
According to source, Two NASA astronauts, Loral O’Hara and Jasmin Moghbeli, are part of an all female astronaut crew set to conduct the fourth-ever all-female spacewalk on November 1. During this all female astronaut crew spacewalk, they will remove an electronics box called the Radio Frequency Group and replace one of 12 trundle bearing assemblies on the International Space Station’s port solar alpha rotary joint, enabling the station’s solar arrays to track the sun.
Originally scheduled for October 20, the all female astronaut crew spacewalk was postponed due to a coolant leak on a backup radiator in Russia’s Nauka module. The all female astronaut crew’s excursion was delayed after a leak of ammonia coolant was discovered on a backup radiator on Russia’s Nauka module.
Two cosmonauts conducted an inspection spacewalk on October 25 to assess the leak and perform other tasks. Their observations could assist Russia’s federal space agency, Roscosmos, in determining the cause of the leak and restoring the radiator to operation.
Fourth Historic All Female Astronaut Crew Spacewalk to Safeguard the International Space Station
Despite the delay, there is no danger to the astronauts aboard the International Space Station as the primary radiator on Nauka continues to function well. This marks the fourth all female astronaut crew spacewalk, with the previous three all-woman spacewalks carried out by NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir in 2019 and 2020. NASA emphasizes that all female astronaut crew spacewalks will continue to be a part of space exploration as we continue to live and work in space.
The all female astronaut crew spacewalk can be watched live via NASA’s coverage starting at 6:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to last approximately seven hours as the all female astronaut crew performs critical tasks to maintain the International Space Station.
