Risks Amid De-mining: Soldiers Suffer Injuries in Vintage Landmine Blast

In a recent report published by Hindustan Times, in November 01, 2023, the mishap explosion in Poonch occurred as they inadvertently triggered a vintage landmine during their mission in the Phagwari Gali area. The soldiers’ safety remains a top priority, as they were promptly transported to the 150 Garrison Hospital in Rajouri for thorough medical evaluation and treatment. Fortunately, their conditions have been reported as stable, providing a glimmer of hope amidst the unforeseen adversity.

The treacherous task of de-mining, especially along the LoC, can pose significant dangers, as highlighted by the recent incident of explosion in Poonch. While diligently engaged in their de-mining operation, the soldiers inadvertently set off a vintage landmine, resulting in minor injuries to three of their comrades.

The explosion in Poonch incident serves as a stark reminder of the hazards faced by those involved in such critical operations, despite their best efforts to clear potentially dangerous areas.

In a news released by Indian Express, as tensions simmer along the Indo-Pak border, the resurfacing of a vintage landmine that led to explosion in Poonch during the de-mining operation in Poonch harks back to the dark days of ‘Operation Parakram’ in 2011. During that time, both India and Pakistan engaged in a protracted border standoff, leading to extensive mining of the border areas.

The recent explosion in Poonch serves as a poignant reminder of the latent threats lurking beneath the soil, even years after the conclusion of such hostilities, underscoring the need for unwavering caution in these volatile regions.
