Chilling Home Invasion and Kidnapping

In a report released by WAFF 48 News, in November 05, 2023, this thrilling chase, which involved multiple law enforcement agencies, unfolded between Interstate 65 and Highway 31 near Decatur, Alabama. Hernandez, who had been on the run for days, was finally apprehended at 3:24 p.m. on that eventful Sunday, marking a significant breakthrough in the investigation. The nightmare began early on a Saturday morning when Hernandez and his accomplice, Auburn Moore, allegedly entered a peaceful Lawrence County home on County Road 245 with sinister intentions – to commit a robbery.

Tragically, this horrifying intrusion at Lawrence County home led to the fatal shooting of Dustin Grimes, who bravely tried to protect his wife from harm. Shockingly, Hernandez and Moore continued to pillage the residence even after this senseless act of violence, and to make matters worse, they kidnapped Grimes’ wife. The harrowing ordeal did not end there; the suspects forcibly coerced Mrs. Grimes to withdraw money from an ATM in the East Lawrence area.

However, she showed incredible resilience by managing to escape their clutches, seeking refuge in a nearby convenience store and promptly calling 911. Her courageous actions played a pivotal role in aiding law enforcement in identifying the two suspects and obtaining warrants for Murder, Robbery, and Kidnapping, bringing hope for justice in the Lawrence County home community.
