The data used in the list containing dangerous cities in Iowa was obtained from the most recent FBI crime report. Only cities in Iowa with a population over 5,000 were analyzed.

According to the list, the most dangerous cities in Iowa are Council Bluffs, Ottumwa, Davenport, Fort Dodge, and Des Moines. Other cities in Iowa that made it to the list are Sioux City, Burlington, Keokuk, Waterloo, and Fort Madison.

One of the cities in Iowa, Council Bluffs, has the highest crime rate in both violent and property crimes. Despite worry for these cities in Iowa, it is important to be aware of the complex nature of crime rates and the importance of intervention, prevention, and improvement in addressing these issues should also be emphasized.

Iowa’s Unique Policy

In a published article by KFF Health News, Iowa has a unique policy that requires approval from the governor’s office before Medicaid will pay for any abortions, even if they meet the state’s criteria.

Governor Kim Reynolds, who opposes abortion, has never been asked to approve a Medicaid payment for an abortion during her time in office.

This policy leaves providers with the choice of either covering the costs of the procedure themselves or risking a confrontation with the governor.
