Ordinance For Requests Of Body-Camera Footage
In a published article by Reuters, an Alabama city council discussed a proposed ordinance that would require police to provide a valid legal reason for denying requests to release body-camera footage.
This measure has come about due to the outcry over the death of a Black man at the hands of the police. The Mobile Police Department has faced criticism for not releasing video footage of the incident in which Jawan Dallas died after being tased by officers during a burglary call.
Body-camera footage has played a crucial role in providing evidence in cases of alleged police violence against Black individuals, such as the killing of George Floyd in 2020.
