People’s Liberation Army (PLA) closely monitored the USS Gabrielle Giffords, a United States warship, which was reported to have illegally entered waters near China’s Ren’ai Reef on Monday.
PLA Responds to Unauthorized Entry
In a recent development published by People’s Daily, in December 04, 2023, the People’s Liberation Army’s Southern Theater Command spokesperson, Tian Junli, condemned the unauthorized passage, accusing the US of deliberately provoking trouble in the region. This move, he asserted, not only infringed upon China’s sovereignty but also posed a severe threat to regional peace and stability.
In response to the alleged incursion, Tian Junli, the spokesperson for the People’s Liberation Army’s Southern Theater Command, revealed that maritime forces were promptly organized to monitor the USS Gabrielle Giffords as it navigated near Ren’ai Reef in China’s Nansha Islands. This action reinforces China’s commitment to protecting its territorial integrity and ensuring the security of the South China Sea.
