Julianne Smith, the U.S. ambassador to NATO, disclosed that the United States has satellite-verified intelligence that North Korea has shipped more than a thousand munitions containers to Russia. Smith voiced concerns about the possible effects on Ukrainian cities and people and denounced North Korea for arming Russia during the current crisis in Ukraine. These containers are allegedly transported by cargo ships from North Korea to Russia, as seen by satellite pictures.
North Korea Allegedly Trades Ammunition for Military Technology with Russia amid Ukraine Conflict
In exchange for the supplied ammo, the U.S. government thinks Pyongyang may be trading military technologies with Russia. Fighter planes, surface-to-air missiles, armored vehicles, equipment for producing ballistic missiles, and other weapons are possible items on North Korea’s wish list.
Smith underlined that the United States is determined to keep a careful eye on the situation and uncover any attempts to give Russia more weapons.
This information comes after rumors from November that North Korea had supplied Russia with more than a million artillery rounds to be used in the conflict with Ukraine. In the face of their mutual international isolation, North Korea and Russia have increased their cooperation, which led to a summit between Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin in September.
