Adora Magic City, China’s First Homegrown Large Cruise Ship, Embarks on Its Inaugural Voyage, Paving the Way for a Transformation in Chinese Cruise Industry
The Adora Magic City, the country’s first-ever major cruise ship built in-house, just set off on a trial run, marking a significant milestone for the cruise industry in China. With a length of 323.6 meters and a gross tonnage of 135,500, this amazing ship is presently berthed at the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal in the Baoshan District. It is scheduled to set sail for its first commercial trip on January 1, 2024. The inaugural trip lasts seven days and visits interesting locations including Jeju, South Korea, and Nagasaki and Fukuoka, Japan.
In addition to these initial routes, the Adora Magic City plans to launch a route connecting China to Southeast Asia, followed by an offering aligned with the Maritime Silk Road, broadening vacation options for passengers. The ship is custom-designed for the Chinese market, boasting a wealth of unique features and amenities, including an expansive 40,000 square meters of public living and recreation space spread across 16 floors.
The vessel has partnered with China Duty-Free Group to offer the largest duty-free retail space at sea, promising passengers a trendy and state-of-the-art shopping experience. Furthermore, the ship is set to provide an exquisite fusion of East and West, offering authentic Chinese and international gourmet cuisine, entertaining shows, and a plethora of shopping experiences at sea.

Captain Niklas Peterstam expressed the comprehensive preparations for the ship’s journey, highlighting the substantial task of managing over 1,200 crew members and ensuring top-notch equipment readiness.
