Aside from FBI Director Christopher Wray, U.S. intelligence analysts have also harbored concerns about China’s alleged extensive collection of hacked personal data for an extended period.
According to a published article by Benzinga, the President of Microsoft believes that AI could effectively analyze this data. Tensions between the U.S. and China regarding AI technology are intensifying, leading the U.S. government to closely examine AI accelerators intended for the Chinese market.
TikTok Ban On Government Devices And Networks
In a published article by Al Jazeera, Maryland recently banned the use of TikTok on government devices and networks. Connecticut cybersecurity officials reached out to the FBI for guidance on whether they should also ban the Chinese-owned app due to concerns about privacy and national security. However, the FBI did not have any additional information or evidence to support a ban on TikTok.
The FBI agent stated that Maryland and other states seemed to base their decisions on news reports about China in general, rather than specific information related to TikTok. Connecticut ultimately determined that the risk of TikTok was “low” and recommended that their governor take no action at that time but continue monitoring the situation.
