Rebate Distribution Details
Based on 2021 tax returns, the state initiated the distribution of rebates, beginning in July and slated to conclude by December 31. Married joint filers stand to receive a maximum of $2,500, while individual filers could be eligible for up to $1,250.
The actual amount hinges on either the maximum sum aligned with the filer’s status or the figure on line 20 of their Montana 2021 income tax form, whichever is lesser.
To qualify for the rebate, Montana taxpayers need to have been state residents throughout the 2021 tax year, filed both 2020 and 2021 tax returns punctually, not claimed as dependents elsewhere, and reported an amount greater than zero on line 20 of their Montana 2021 income tax form.
Automatic Rebate Dispensation
The Montana Department of Revenue ensures automatic delivery of the rebate to eligible taxpayers without necessitating additional paperwork.
Governor Greg Gianforte expressed anticipation of returning excess taxes to Montanans. “Montanans overpaid their taxes, and we’re giving it back,” he remarked, affirming the initiative to inject the money back into the pockets of state residents.
