Michael Griffin, a “SHOE-perstar” in Charlotte, is known for his bespoke shoes. Griffin, 31, lived with his father in 2020 and struggled with his purpose. He went on a fantastic journey to become a sneaker king, believing shoes tell one’s life narrative.
Sneaker Artistry: Michael Griffin’s Journey of Self-Expression and Personalized Designs
Griffin sees sneakers as a form of self-expression. Dissatisfied with the commonplace, he wanted to personalize shoes. Griffin persevered without art expertise or means to realize his idea. He began custom shoe creation with a stimulus check and his wife Emily Parks’ unflinching support.
Griffin experienced hurdles but persevered because creating shoes requires artistic skills and supplies. He knew success wouldn’t arrive overnight but kept going. He turned things around when he got to create Panthers linebacker Brian Burns’ shoes before the 2022 season. This relationship established a clientele that included Burns’ colleagues Laviska Shenault Jr., Derrick Brown, Xavier Woods, and Chuba Hubbard.
Griffin’s art became popular, and players sought his personalized designs. He says he never runs out of ideas, making each pair unique and representing the wearer’s personality. Adam Thielen’s hairy Grinch duo has TVs that play movie clips.
