Families with children who qualify for free or reduced-price lunches can access Summer EBT, which will provide $120 per eligible child for summer food shopping. The Summer EBT program is expected to provide around $2.5 billion for groceries, benefiting about 70% of those eligible for Summer EBT.
According to a published article by SmartNews, the initiative of the Summer EBT program aims to address the issue of summer hunger among children and promote their overall nourishment and health.
Some states, like Georgia, have opted out of the Summer EBT, citing existing programs and concerns about the federal program’s nutritional requirements and sustainability.
