The US Department of State speaks out against Beijing’s interference in Taiwan’s democratic process
The US Department of State called on China to abstain from applying undue influence on Taiwan, particularly in the period preceding the island’s upcoming elections, during a recent interview with Voice of America (VOA). As apprehensions regarding Beijing’s military, diplomatic, and economic endeavors to sway Taiwan’s democratic process increase, this reprimand is issued.
The US Department of State spokespersons have highlighted the significance of letting Taiwanese voters choose their leader without interference. The spokeswoman backed Taiwan’s democracy and stressed regional peace and stability. Washington rejects foreign meddling in Taiwan’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
Specifically, the United States has called on China to honor Taiwan’s elections, demonstrating its dedication to maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait. Scott Kennedy, a senior consultant at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, asserts that Beijing’s escalating military intimidations aim to instill fear in Taiwan, however, the likelihood of an actual assault is remote.

Senior Vice President for Asia at the center Victor Cha stressed that Indo-Pacific countries do not want a cross-strait crisis, emphasizing the US’s security responsibility. The US has vowed to defend Taiwan and urge China to respect the democratic will of the Taiwanese people.
This attitude confirms the US’s support for Taiwan and sends a strong message to Beijing to stop the pressure and involvement in Taiwan’s domestic affairs, especially ahead of the elections. The US Department of State’s announcement emphasizes Taiwan’s sovereignty and regional stability, casting the US as a firm champion for Taiwan against external pressures.
