Oregon Department of Revenue’s Recent Announcement

The Oregon Department of Revenue will begin processing e-filed 2023 state income tax returns on January 29th. This process done by the Oregon Department of Revenue will also start the same day the IRS starts processing federal returns.

As also stated by the Oregon Department of Revenue, paper-filed returns will be processed in mid-February. However, the Oregon Department of Revenue will not issue personal income tax refunds until after February 15th as part of their fraud prevention efforts.

According to a published article by SmartNews, e-filing is the fastest way for taxpayers to get their refunds as the Oregon Department of Revenue recommends.

With e-filed returns and direct deposit, refunds are received two weeks sooner on average, as the Oregon Department of Revenue informs its customers. This is much more convenient compared to paper returns and paper refund checks.

What Will Happen On January 29?

In a published article by CNN, the IRS will start accepting and processing 2023 federal income tax returns on January 29. The regular filing deadline is April 15, but taxpayers in Maine and Massachusetts have until April 17 due to state holidays.

People affected by a federally declared disaster area, such as the recent storms in Tennessee, have until June 17, 2024, to file and pay their taxes. If you can’t file by mid-April, you can apply for a six-month filing extension to avoid a late filing penalty.
