Bannon Challenges Johnson’s Divine Justification of Biden’s Presidency

Bannon argues that the United States requires a political leader rather than a theologian.

House Speaker Mike Johnson‘s comment that Joe Biden’s win was ‘God’s will,’ according to Steve Bannon, a former key adviser for Donald Trump. Bannon rejected the allegation made by Johnson on his podcast “The War Room,” who argued that the United States requires a House Speaker, not a theologian. Johnson, who identified as a Christian and professed faith in the Bible, had implied that Biden’s appointment to the president was predetermined.

Bannon aimed Johnson’s assertion, labeling Biden an ‘illegitimate president‘ and further castigating Johnson by saying, “Don’t be a theologian, I don’t need a theologian. He is the Speaker of the House. That’s what the country needs.” This incident follows a previous clash between Bannon and Johnson over the passage of a controversial two-step continuing resolution.

Johnson’s religious beliefs have been a topic of debate, with concerns over how they influence his stance on specific policies, such as abortion and the separation of church and state. His election denialism also came under scrutiny when he voted against the certification of the 2020 election results. Despite facing criticism within his party and being labeled an election denier, Johnson received support from moderate Democrats.

Amid rising tensions within the GOP over a contentious spending agreement, Johnson stood firm on the deal. He dismissed accusations of being an election denier but declined to acknowledge Biden’s victory. As Speaker, Johnson’s actions and beliefs continue to shape the political landscape, causing controversy and support among his colleagues and the public.

Steve Bannon‘s recent comments further highlight the divide between those who question the validity of Biden’s election and those who accept the results. The debate continues on the intersection of religion and politics and the role of a political leader in contrast to that of a theologian. As the 2024 presidential election approaches, this controversy promises to remain relevant in the national conversation.
