The budget proposed by Governor Kristi Noem earns concerns as her long-term financial outlook is questioned.
Governor Kristi Noem’s Budget Message
Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota presented a budget message emphasizing financial discipline and prioritizing people over programs. However, Governor Kristi Noem’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2025 is nearly 30% higher than two years ago, raising concerns about the state’s long-term financial outlook.
According to a published article by SmartNews, the Republican-controlled Legislature overshot Governor Kristi Noem’s budget request last session, while federal stimulus money currently accounts for 47% of the state’s budget. Some lawmakers worry about the consequences when the federal funds run out, which may happen after Governor Kristi Noem leaves office.
The proposed FY 2025 budget for state general funds is $2.39 billion, an increase of 8.3% over last year’s proposal.
Governor Kristi Noem Was In Sioux City
In a published article by Dakota Free Press, six days before the Governor’s State of the State Address, Governor Kristi Noem was in Sioux City for a gathering called Country Celebrations Center, which can accommodate 500 people.
This event is related to Trump’s campaign, although Trump himself does not require Governor Kristi Noem’s assistance in drawing a large crowd. In Sioux City, Governor Kristi Noem will be vying for Trump’s attention, potentially as a candidate for the vice presidency.
