66 employees will be losing their jobs as the Macy’s at the Bayfair Center is reportedly closing.

Macy’s will be closing its location at the Bayfair Center. This closure of the Macy’s at the Bayfair Center is resulting in the loss of 66 jobs.
The closure of the Macy’s at the Bayfair Center is part of Macy’s larger plan to reposition its store fleet to better serve customers. The affected employees of the Macy’s at the Bayfair Center will receive benefits
The employees at the Macy’s at the Bayfair Center will also have the opportunity to transfer to other nearby Macy’s stores. The closure of the Macy’s at the Bayfair Center comes as the Bayfair Center becomes more vacant and there are potential redevelopment plans, which may include more housing in the area.
According to a published article by The US Sun, aside from the Macy’s at the Bayfair Center, Macy’s is also closing four other stores in Arlington, Virginia; Lihue, Hawaii; Simi Valley, California; and Tallahassee, Florida.
The retailer plans to streamline management roles, upgrade digital functions, and enhance visual displays to improve the shopping experience, hence the closing of Macy’s at the Bayfair Center.
Macy’s At The Emerald Square Will Remain Open
In a published article by the Sun Chronicle, Macy’s is closing five mall locations across the United States but the one at Emerald Square will remain open.
Emerald Square and many other malls are experiencing high vacancy rates and are exploring nontraditional uses for their spaces, such as housing units.
