Flyers Carter Hart and three other NHL players have been entangled in assault issues.
Flyers Carter Heart’s Alleged Assault
On Friday, no formal suspensions were given to the four NHL players, including Flyers Carter Heart, charged in connection to an alleged assault in 2018.
However, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman stated that Flyers Carter Hart and the other three players would not be playing any time soon as they are on leave from their teams and are free agents.
Flyers Carter Heart is in the final year of his contract and will become a restricted free agent in July. If the Flyers don’t qualify him, Flyers Carter Heart would become a free agent, but signing elsewhere is not certain yet.
Flyers Carter Heart is one of five members of the 2018 Canadian World Junior team charged with assault after an incident at a hotel. The other players facing charges along with Flyers Carter Heart are Alex Formenton, Dillon Dubé, Michael McLeod, and Cal Foote.
According to a published article by The Fresno Bee, McLeod faces an additional charge for being a party to the offense. The league did not have prior notice of the charges against Flyers Carter Heart and the other players, and the teams involved were not aware of the findings from the NHL’s internal investigation.
The league aims to have certainty before taking action to avoid ruining Flyers Carter Heart and the other players’ careers.
The Other Players Involved
In a published article by the Chicago Tribune, the other players charged are Alex Formenton, Dillon DubĂ©, Michael McLeod, and Cal Foote. Hart took an indefinite leave of absence from the Flyers on January 23 for personal reasons, but it’s unclear if it’s related to the assault incident. The league was not aware of the charges before they were filed.
