The McKinleyville Family Resource Center started the Humboldt Income Program a Pregnancy Support Program to help pregnant Humboldt residents. The California Department of Social Services funds this program, which pays 150 qualifying individuals $920 each month for 18 months without strings attached.

Pregnant Women in Humboldt County Offered Financial Support: Enrollment Open for Humboldt Income Program

Robin Baker, Co-Executive Director, and initiative Manager, said the initiative targets pregnant women for the Pregnancy Support Program in their first 27 weeks who live in Humboldt County, are 18 or older, and earn 200% or less of the federal poverty line. The current enrollment is 99, allowing room for 51 more.

In a randomized controlled experiment, candidates are chosen by lottery. While 150 people earn $920, 100 receive $20.

Direct deposit, mail-in debit cards, McKinleyville Family Resource Center pickup, or prepaid virtual debit cards are payment choices. These payments provide pregnant participants with financial security for 18 months.

Pregnancy Support Program in Humboldt County Residents Receive $920 Monthly Aid: Humboldt Income Program Seeks to Expand Impact

Baker hopes the initiative will continue and impact guaranteed income ideas. Learning from this approach, they want to provide direct financial aid to their community activities and pursue funds for similar efforts.

The program needs a recommendation from a McKinleyville Family Resource Center partner, such as Open Door Community Health Centers, Redwoods Rural Health Center, or United Indian Health Services. The center’s website has further information about the Humboldt Income Program.

The Humboldt Income Program for Pregnancy Support Program provides $920 per month to pregnant Humboldt County residents for 18 months. The initiative helps the needy and contributes to guaranteed income policy discussions through random selection. Partner organizations of the McKinleyville Family Resource Center offer referrals.
