Families earning under $46,600 annually in Arlington saw significant enhancements in their lives with the extra $500 per month, addressing basic needs and paving the way for better job prospects.
Arlington Community Foundation, inspired by similar programs in Stockton and Jackson, aims to combat the stigma around guaranteed income and foster economic stability for struggling households.
Despite challenges like food and housing insecurity, participants, especially in South Arlington, reported improved mental and physical well-being, thanks to the support from the Concord District Court-led program.

Arlington Community Foundation: Government Response and Future Outlook
While private donations funded the pilot, Arlington County’s Department of Human Services collaborated with the Concord District Court to ensure efficient participant selection and evaluation.
Efforts to advocate for a permanent guaranteed income program at the state and federal levels are ongoing, with discussions around reinstating the child tax credit and exploring other policy avenues to uplift families in need.
