Nico Hischier became the highest-drafted Swiss-born player in NHL history when he got selected in the 2017 NHL Draft by the Devils.
He was declared Canadian Hockey League Rookie of the Year when he scored 86 points in 57 games in his season in North America with Halifax during the 2016-17 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He won both the Michael Bossy Trophy as the professional prospect and the Michel Bergeron as Offender Rookie of the Year.
He finished his rookie season with points in 82 games by scoring his first two NHL goals against the Ottawa Senators on October 19, 2017.
