Mayor Eric Adams Vetoes 4 Bills Aimed At Increasing Aid To Homeless New Yorkers, Citing Cost

Friday, Mayor Eric Adams vetoed four bills seeking to increase aid to homeless New Yorkers. He set up a showdown with the New York City Council amid tense negotiations over a new budget due June 30th.

Mayor Eric Adams cut the ribbon for his new project which is the public space on Broadway, but it is not his most momentous action of the day. After he voted for a sweeping package of house bills that would probably cost a million dollars that he said the city cannot afford.

He added that the proposed bill that he approves can not only create expectations to his people and this cannot be met.

Mayor Adams Vetoes Bills For Increased Aid For Homeless New Yorkers

When Mayor Eric Adams asked in the Broadway event if he would veto the bills, Adams said, “We sent out a statement and the statement speaks loud.” The bills which seek to expand the number of people would be good for rent subsidies, could cost as much at $17 billion for about five years according from the City Hall. Councilmembers immediately gathered some supporters to cancelled and protest the votes. “We will override his veto,” said Council Member Crystal Hudson, of Brooklyn. “We’re in a housing crisis like we’ve not seen before.”
