According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, Mr. Andrew Mitchell, 59, who was a former vice detective from Ohio, pleaded guilty yesterday to federal charges. Mitchell confessed to taking kidnapping victims who posed as sex workers and claimed to be officers making proper arrests.
An ex-veteran of the Columbus Division of Police, Mitchell, has just pleaded guilty in court. Mitchell’s duration exceeded three decades, and on the contrary, he worked hard for the authority until he left in January 2019. He admitted to committing two counts of civil rights violations in the face of his authority. Mitchell also confessed to impeding justice, which made the situation even more serious.
Therefore, it is crucial to concentrate on the tragic events of July 2017 that led to Mitchell’s most recent guilty plea. Mitchell, in the undercover role of a detective, allegedly cuffed up a sex worker and chained her down to his non-obvious car. Later, the person moved the vehicle to the designated parking spot and played a cop. In a very surprising twist, he proceeded to arrest the woman, denying her the right to move freely. Mitchell was in a similar manner of operation; operating covertly, he interrogated one of the sex workers in a similar manner of pricing. Nevertheless, he exposed his true self as a police officer and kidnapped her. This incident happened exactly two months after a prior event with a similar modus operandi.
Mitchell, who had been implicated in the shooting that took the life of 23-year-old Donna Castleberry in August 2018, was found not guilty earlier this year. Mitchell, the one involved in a controversial occurrence, has presented a case of self-defense. In an undercover operation against prostitution, according to Mitchell, Castleberry is said to have stabbed himself in the hand.
The vice detective, Mitchell, has once again landed himself in trouble. This, however, comes on the heels of a troubling pattern, despite being acquitted in a past case. Mitchell’s having to answer federal charges has shocked the community and raised serious doubts about his performance as a vice detective. The recent guilty plea only reminds us of serious accusations and raises fears for corruption within the sphere of law enforcement.
Currently, Mitchell will have the consequences of his actions facing him. Another chapter of horror in the story of a retired law enforcer is the plea of guilt.
