There is a 12-day window in which homeowners in New York can apply for a $1,407 maximum rebate under the School Tax Relief Program (STAR).
Basic and Enhanced STAR Programs for Tax Relief
In New York, homeowners can alternate between the Basic and Enhanced STAR programs. They cannot, however, take use of both programs at the same time. The STAR exemption will appear on the registering year’s school tax bill for those who apply by December 31st.
For qualified homes, the Basic STAR exemption provided by New York City is shown on their property tax payment. This exemption is available to qualifying persons, whatever of age, whose income is less than $250,000. The average check for such individuals is $778.
On the other hand, seniors who meet the income and eligibility requirements can receive a greater benefit through the state-provided Enhanced STAR exemption. Depending on the application date, seniors can anticipate receiving an average payment for $1,407 before the end of the year. Applicants must be 65 years of age or older by December 31st of the exemption year in order to be eligible. Only one spouse or family member must be of legal age to own a jointly held property.

The White House emphasizes the impact of Bidenomics in an end-of-year memo, promoting economic initiatives. While applicants can switch STAR programs any time during the year, prompt action is advised to ensure timely processing and inclusion on the school tax bill.
