Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Utilizes Technology and Manpower to Combat Child Internet Crimes

Alabama’s Baldwin County Sheriff’s officers arrested Stapleton man Treyton Blake Witherington on various child pornography charges. The county’s roster of offenders included Witherington, a past sexual offender. Witherington was arrested when detectives found pornographic photographs of youngsters on his devices. Witherington was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender, but this new case added six allegations of having child pornography involving under-17s.

Baldwin County Sheriff Addresses Rise in Internet Crimes Against Children, Cites Enhanced ICAC Efforts

On January 10, 2024, Baldwin County Sheriff Huey “Hoss” Mack held a press conference to discuss fighting crimes like this. He attributed the arrest to the reinforced Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) team. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) ICAC team investigates internet crimes against children with local law enforcement. In 2023, Sheriff Mack’s department worked 25 cases and made 18 arrests.

Cases frequently start with tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children or community members. The ICAC team proceeds with detailed investigations.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office has grown from one or two detectives to six in recent years, showing a significant dedication to these crimes. These infractions are serious, and Sheriff Mack warned of escalation, including physical confrontation, in extreme cases.

Sheriff’s Office Bolsters Efforts Against Internet Crimes, Detains Suspect on Multiple Charges

Manpower, tools, and technology have been provided to the Sheriff’s Office. This effort to find perpetrators aims to prevent worse repercussions. State and federal law enforcement funding funded some of the department’s new computer systems.

The Baldwin County Jail holds Treyton Witherington on a $96,500 bond. The Sheriff’s Office fights juvenile internet offenses and protects the community.
