Atlanta News First recently reported about a stabbing incident in Atlanta’s Five Points MARTA station which identifies the assailant behind the violent stabbing spree as George Birkley Jr., 33, by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Birkley Jr. allegedly attacked two individuals before engaging in a confrontation with a MARTA police officer, resulting in a gunshot wound.
Chaos Unfolds at Five Points Station
The harrowing incident unfolded around 11 a.m. on Wednesday when Birkley Jr. was reportedly involved in a stabbing incident in Atlanta’s Five Points MARTA station where two individuals were victimized near the bus shelter. In a brave attempt to intervene, a MARTA police officer confronted the assailant.
During the confrontation of the stabbing incident in Atlanta’s Five Points MARTA station, Birkley Jr. managed to inflict injuries on the officer, cutting their hand. In response, the officer discharged their firearm, striking Birkley Jr. in the leg and stomach, ending the rampage.
All parties involved, including Birkley Jr., the two victims, and the injured officer, were rushed to Grady Hospital. Currently, they all remain in critical condition, with the officer sustaining injuries to the head and hand.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The stabbing incident in Atlanta’s Five Points MARTA station will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for further legal action when the GBI has finished its investigation.
This shooting incident marks the second violent episode at Five Points station within two weeks, following a fatal stabbing on January 8.
