The Closure of Refugee Services of Texas in June
Last month, the Refugee Services of Texas announced its permanent closure due to a severe loss of budget.
According to KERA News, the Refugee Services of Texas revealed that the number of accepted immigrants in their agency has exceeded its allocated budget, which leads to permanent closure.Â
After the sudden closure after 45 years in service, the Refugee Services of Texas clients were badly affected.Â
One of their clients, Yeganeh Bahraminejad, a native Iranian who fled the country to live in the US, said, “It’s not my problem that they don’t have the money. They accept my case. If they don’t have the money, why [did] they accept new case[s]?” as quoted by Texas Standard.Â
Now, the Refugee Services of Texas clients have decried their situation after the closure. They also revealed that the other agencies’ slow process of taking over is making them feel worse.
For Bahraminejad, she said that she would need a job to pay for the bills and food now that the Refugee Services of Texas is closed and no one is assisting them.Â
