The American Civil Liberties Union is calling out the newly-appointed chief of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to limit the arrests of illegal immigrants in the country and review the agency’s detention facilities for health and safety issues fairly.
What is American Civil Liberties Union?
The American Civil Liberties Union is a group of people who assist in fighting certain social issues in the US. They believe that every person has the freedom and right to get treated fairly.
According to the website, the American Civil Liberties Union also fights for the rights of the immigrants residing in the country. They believe that every Constitution and Rights apply to every person in the US regardless of immigration status.
According to the data, American Civil Liberties Union revealed that roughly 80% of the immigrants were deported in 2013 without getting due process, and approximately 1 billion immigrants were detained.
American Civil Liberties Union Asks Chief of ICE to Treat Immigrants Fairly
Since the appointment of Patrick Lechleitner as the new chief of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the American Civil Liberties Union has been calling on him to treat immigrants fairly by limiting the arrests.
The Daily Caller reported that the American Civil Liberties Union said ICE should review their detention facilities fairly for health and safety issues.
“Acting Director Lechleitner must not let the ugly politics of immigration stop him from taking swift and meaningful action on detention and enforcement,” said the American Civil Liberties Union, as quoted in the report.
The American Civil Liberties Union also demanded to stop the mass detention system for immigrants and they should be treated equally.
On the other hand, based on ICE data, since roughly 2.3 million immigrants entered the southern border in 2022, the agency only removed 72,000 illegal aliens compared to 185,000 in 2020.
