Female Police Officer of Rutland City, Jessica Ebbighausen, was killed in a car crash while pursuing a burglar.
The Female police officer was killed and two other officers were injured when a burglar suspect involved in a burglary crashed into two police cruisers while being pursued by law enforcement.
The incident occurred last afternoon of July 7, 2023 when an attempted burglary happened in Rutland City, Vermont. Tragically, one female police officer lost their life while bravely carrying out their duty to protect the community. The suspect, attempting to elude capture, crashed with two police cruisers which the female police officer and two others are in, during the pursuit, causing injuries to two additional officers.
Tate Rheaume, 20, a suspect in an attempted burglary at a house in Rutland, is the one driving a getaway truck that crashed with the police cruisers the female police officer and two others are on.
The police stated that Rheaume crossed the centerline and crashed directly with the female police officer Ebbighausen’s cruiser.
Female Police Officer Ebbighausen was declared dead on-the spot. According to the Vermont police, two other officers and Rheaume were taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Rheaume was brought to the University Of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.
Vermont police said in a statement that female Police Officer Jessica Ebbighausen, started working as a part-time officer last May with the Rutland Police Department in May. Female Police Officer Ebbighausen was due to start her training at the Vermont Police Academy to be a full-time officer this coming August.
City Police Chief Brian Kilcullen said that female police officer Ebbighausen always wanted to be a police since she was nine, the state police department are in grieve for her death, said Kilcullen.
Female Police Officer Ebbighausen was said to be the youngest of 28 Vermont officers who had died in the line of duty according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
The Vermont Police OF Rutland Department are running an investigation to further review everything.
