Biden acknowledged his selection of the former Maryland governor as the upcoming head of the Social Security Administration on Wednesday.
Who is Governor O’Malley?
Biden pointed out that Gov. O’Malley is a dedicated public servant who always has the American people at the forefront of his priorities and the heart of his work. Biden feels certain that he has chosen an efficient administrator who will effectively head the Social Security Administration and allow millions of individuals to review important services.
O’Malley was the governor of Maryland from 2007 to 2015 and the mayor of Baltimore for two terms. He also ran as a Democratic presidential candidate in 2016 but has said he will not run again. He is the 61st Governor of Maryland.
O’Malley and his wife, former Baltimore City District Court Judge Catherine Curran O’Malley, were honored last week at an Annapolis luncheon where their official portraits went on display eight years after he left office.
Challenge and Opportunities Awats to the Next Head
In a published article released by The Star Democrat, it states that Nancy Altman, president of Social Security Works, said her organization “applauds the nomination of Governor O’Malley, a longtime Social Security champion.”
According to an annual assessment by the Social Security and Medicare Boards of Trustees, the next head of the Social Security Administration would confront substantial budget challenges, as stated in an article recently published by Maryland Matters.
President Joe Biden confirmed the decision to nominate Martin O’Malley as commissioner of the Woodlawn-based organization on Wednesday. The appointment of O’Malley both ratification by the United States Senate.
