Saints Rookie Bryan Bresee: Turning Heads With His Spin Moves

Taking a flyer on an injury-prone player in the first round is a reasonable risk; if they stay healthy, they could steal the draft. (Photo: Crescent Sports)

You wouldn’t know that from watching Saints Rookie Bryan Bresee over the past few weeks because there is no exact formula for how long it will take a rookie to start flashing on a big stage.

According to Audacy, the rookie defensive tackle from Clemson has received high praise for his quickness and speed. He used it to seize a forced fumble in Week 2, but in Week 3 it was his inside spin move that caught everyone’s attention and allowed him to sabotage several Texans drives.

Malcolm Roach was asked about the play after the game, and he smiled, “Did you see it?” He noted that it is imposing how quickly he gets into it on the line, unlike most players who must work up the field first to gain momentum.

The most impressive play was when Saints Rookie Bryan Bresee beat Texans guard Kenyon Green so violently that it appeared to have injured Green in the red zone. Saints Rookie Bryan Bresee was breathing down Davis Mills’ neck in a split second. Although the QB could duck and flee, the play was blown up. Niko Lalos and Isaiah Foskey, who also had a breakout day, cleared the field before the sack.

Given that the Saints’ interior defensive unit was largely rebuilt this offseason as a result of the departures of Shy Tuttle to the Panthers and David Onyemata to the Falcons, the performance was unquestionably encouraging for the team.

According to YardBarker, Roach is the only player who has returned, but impressive newcomers Nathan Shepherd and Khalen Saunders are working in the rotation. Saunders refers to this group of outstanding athletes as “dancing pandas.”

But Saints Rookie Bryan Bresee, a player anticipated to play a significant role in the Saints’ defensive strategies going forward, owned Sunday.

For him, “the sky is the limit,” Roach declared. I’m so glad he’s on our team, man.
