Holyoke
Population: 40,002
Violent Crimes Per 100k: 904
Property Crimes Per 100k: 3,114
Holyoke has had the unfortunate distinction of being the most dangerous city in the list of “The Most Dangerous Cities in Massachusetts” for three years running.
Holyoke might appear to be a tranquil haven at first glance given that it is tucked away just north of Springfield between the serene Connecticut River and the magnificent Mount Tom Range.
Holyoke residents had a 1 in 32 chance of becoming a victim of a property crime in 2020. Therefore, if you ever find yourself in Holyoke, keep in mind to lock your doors and keep a close eye on your possessions.
Additionally, Holyoke reported almost one violent crime per day, ranking 49th in Massachusetts for rape cases and second for murder rates.
Springfield
Population: 153,084
Violent Crimes Per 100k: 966
Property Crimes Per 100k: 2,436
Springfield, the birthplace of the well-known children’s book author Dr. Seuss as well as Smith & Wesson, the nation’s largest handgun manufacturer, is a city of contrasts.
Unfortunately, because Springfield had the highest rate of violent crime in Massachusetts, that side of Springfield is more noticeable than the Smith & Wesson side.
Springfield had the sixth-highest murder rate in the state in 2020 with 18 reported murders. Over the year, Springfield residents had a 1 in 103 chance of becoming the victim of a violent crime. This has been the reason why Springfield suits of being on the “Most Dangerous Cities in Massachusetts” list.
North Adams
Population: 12,620
Violent Crimes Per 100k: 681
Property Crimes Per 100k: 2,432
North Adams, a 12,620-person city in western Massachusetts’s Berkshire County, is well-known for its tourism, culture, and leisure activities. It is, however, developing a reputation for being a dangerous location.
With 69 reported break-ins in 2020, North Adams had the second-highest rate of burglaries in the state. North Adams has the 16th highest rate of rape cases in the state even though violent crime is generally low there. This has been the reason why North Adams suits of being on the “Most Dangerous Cities in Massachusetts” list.
